Mobilisation for the project construction works began in April 2003 . Major land-based construction works for the project commenced in July 2003 whereas marine -based works commenced in late July 2003.
The major construction works requiring environmental monitoring and audit as identified in the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Report undertaken to date include: dredging works; rock filling works; sand filling works; construction of wave absorbing seawall and waterfront pumping stations; seawall block installation ; demolition of existing seawalls; refurbishment works at Pier 7 ; marine piling works at Pier 8 and Public Pier West; land piling and substructure works for the Central Terminal Building (CTB); land piling works for the Man Yiu Street footbridge and drainage culvert ; landside cooling watermains works; maintenance and necessary repair work for seawater intake silt screens.
